  • Teachers walk with students to and from specials or transitions
  • Have the class line up quietly before you walk into the hallway
  • Hold up a Level 0 sign while walking your line
  • Give out coins and compliments to those who are following the expectations
  • Practice - if a student is struggling, use a reteach and have them try it again. If the entire class is struggling, stop and have them go back and do it again.

KASD Music Team

KASD Elementary Certified Staff,

Recent legislation in the state of Wisconsin, WI Act 20, has provided new requirements for literacy assessment, instruction, and professional development at the elementary level. The professional development component requires all elementary educators who work with K-3 students to participate in an approved training related to evidence-based literacy instruction. This requirement includes the following teachers: classroom, ELL, special education (including speech and language pathologists), and literacy interventionists.  While the law specifies the requirement for K-3 teachers to be trained, we are offering optional training for 4K and 4th grade teachers.

Over the course of next school year, staff members will have the opportunity to choose one of three cohorts with which to participate in the required professional development. KASD has selected the Cox Campus Structured Literacy Program to meet the training requirement. Much of the training will be done asynchronously online at your own pace. There will also be two in-person follow-up sessions to extend and apply the learning.

Staff members will be compensated at the curriculum rate for the 30 hour course and the two, 2 hour  in-person follow up sessions, for a total of 34 hours.   Reimbursement will be paid following the full completion of the training with a certificate and attendance at the scheduled in person time.

Please choose a cohort that works best for you by May 10th using this Google Form.  Be sure to sign up for the cohort with in-person dates that work for you.

While there is a state mandate behind this training requirement, it is a great opportunity for us to learn and grow in support of the students we serve.
