Winter Weather - Winter Weather Expectations

Please click the slideshow title below and review with students for our winter weather expectations when the snow starts flying again.  At our December EA meeting we also discussed the following items to create a common understanding to help us all.
  • Balls can be used on the blacktop when the field is closed as long as it is not being kicked toward the school or toward the road.
  • Snow, mud, or ice must wear boots
  • Snow = boots and snow pants
  • When there is snow on the ground, no boots and snow pants = black top
  • Coats - we are now at the point where just a sweatshirt isn’t ok at recess anymore. They will be sent in to get their coats if they don’t wear them out. If they didn’t bring a coat, they will have the natural consequences of being cold or can get one from Mr. Tom’s Closet.  If you are noticing repetitive forgetting of a coat, please call home to ask for their support.
  • No Rugby!!!!!

Winter iReady Window

Let me or any of the coaches know if you'd like our assistance at all during the Winter iReady window.  Reference the Jan. 3 email from me.

Click this blue link to see more easily accessible goal setting info.  It includes more printables and etc. to make the process easier if you set goals with students.  We have seen the benefit of discussion, goal setting, bringing awareness/value/importance in iReady and growing as "individuals".

If you feel like you need more understanding and info on Typical Growth and Student Growth here is another handout from iReady but I went through and highlighted for the areas that might be of more interest to help make it a quicker read.

We shared the "how to" to help empower you to know how to open/ close access if you need to based on your assessment schedule. The winter iReady window is from January 2-26.

No need to begin right away on the first day or two back, but as we have learned in past years there is always the potential for absences or unexpected events so please don't wait until the last week or two of the window to start.  More will be shared about the idea of reviewing/setting goals if you did that in the fall with students or wat to do it now. Thank you!

It is hard to believe we are already planning for another great summer school session! The grading window for 1st Semester is open for you to enter grades. An important reminder....for core areas of ELA and Math, you ONLY grade to the power standards. You will be able to see all of the standards below the power standards, but do not need to and should not grade the individual standards.

Click here for a 40 second video that might help to know where/how to go for post grades. Remember...you are only doing the power standards which you choose from the pull down menu at the top.

The window will remain open until Monday, Jan. 29th.

EQ STEP Charts

Here is a link to updated STEP charts for EQ with you. Those shared prior were PDFs and don't update with changes so this link will always have the most active/recent view.  As we've discussed they are evergreen and we will continue to update them as we progress.  Please let your grade level reps on the SLT, Academic Team or BASE team know if you have questions or ideas.  These groups help to update the plans.

Staff Thoughts

Let's take a moment to send some extra love and support to past and present colleagues who are dealing with the loss of a family member.  Thoughts go out to Kara Baumgartner and her family as they attend the funeral for the passing of Kara's grandmother.  Also as shared before break, retired staff member Ann Willmer's father passed unexpectedly in December. Let's take a moment to send our heartfelt condolences and keep our colleague in our minds, offering them strength and comfort during this difficult period. Your kindness and empathy can mean a lot during times like these.

Winter Diagnostic

January brings the second window for administering our second round of the iReady Diagnostic with students.  This window goes through January 26th.
With Winter iReady Assessments coming up, students will not have access to MyPath when an assessment window is open.  Knowing this you were taught in December how staff can open/ close their whole class window/ or open/ close a window for an individual student if access to MyPath is needed.

Thank you!
